going somewhere to another place, where there’s heat and no snow”. So he is going to search a new home. He is swimming for 8 days and 7 nights and finally arrives at a new, unfamiliar place called Australia. And there he makes friends with a koala Chucky. He doesn’t look like Snowy but they get pretty close. Chucky shows him the unusual nature of his country. They are running, jumping, dancing and playing on the grass all day and night. The only thing that Snowy doesn’t like about Australia is the hot weather. One day he is so hot in his warm coat and thirsty that he says, “I’d like to go down the snow hills like in the northern Arctic, I’d like catch the falling snowflakes with my mouth, I’d like to play hide-and-seeks in the holes in snow banks”. Chucky can’t understand him. He asks, “ What are snow hills? What are snowflakes? What are snow banks? What is snow?” Snowy is trying to explain that to Chucky but he fails. Snowy likes his new friend and Australia but one night he sees many stars in the sky. And he sees A Big Bear and a Small Bear. At that moment he feels that he has missed Mummy bear and Daddy bear. Two weeks later Snowy is more and more missing his family and the northern Arctic. But he doesn’t want to leave his true friend. “ What can I do?”, thinks he, “Chucky wants to know what snow is. Oh, I know what to do. I’ll take him with me to the northern Arctic. I’ll show him my home and give him the most beautiful snowflakes. He’ll like my present, I’m sure”. And two friends go sailing to Snowy’s home. They are sailing for a long time and at last Snowy see his parents on an ice floe. He begins to cry, “Mummy, Daddy, it’s me, Snowy.” His parents are glad to see his son and surprised to see his new friend because he doesn’t look like them. “It’s my friend Chucky”, says Snowy, “he wants to see our snow. There is no snow in his country. We want to play hide-and-seek right now.” “But he isn’t white,” says Mummy bear, “how can you play? ” Snowy and Chucky are sad, they are small and they want to play very much. “Don’t be sad,” says Mummy bear, “ I have a new white coat. I’ve knitted it for you. The snow was humming its funny song and I was knitting it when you were away. Take it, Chucky.” Chucky is putting the white coat on. It’s nice, it’s white. “Thank you,” says Chucky and the bear cubs run away to play their games. Two weeks later it is Chucky who is missing his family and his country. “ East or West, home is best,” says Mummy bear. And both bear cubs agree with her. They decide to be friends but live with their families and visit each other from time to time. Snow gives Chucky a lot of beautiful snowflakes and promises, “I won’t wear the white coat Mummy bear has knitted. It’ll wait for you and I’ll wait for you too.” Chucky is climbing an ice floe and going to Australia. He has a lot of presents from the northern Arctic with him.
