Before I took part in the Expedition through the Arctic, I had lived by a schedule. In the Arctic you lose sense of time. Having 24 hours of sunlight we could start our hiking at what we thought was 3 PM but it was actually 3 AM.
Our entire being was focused on one thing: survival.
That day or night (I can’t say for sure) I was on polar bear watch while the others were sleeping.

a polar bear. He looked at me, but in his eyes I saw fear. I realized that he was hungry and I had a chocolate bar in my pocket. I gave him a piece at first, he frightened me, but when I showed him that he should have it. He ate and asked for more. When the chocolate ended, I went home for a meal. When I went to the house everyone was a sleep and I took sandwiches. I went out and saw that bear tries to catch fish, but he failed. I gave him a sandwich. When he ate the bear came up to him and took him away. When I arrived next year, I saw the bear.
He ran up to me and I greeted my old friend too.
